My trials with Donuts

A while back I found this donut recipe and was instantly intrigued. I’m not gonna lie. Donuts are probably one of my favorite things in the entire world. I can’t think of anything in the world better than a really good donut(if you can please let me know because I really don’t think there is anything). So anyways, I found this donut recipe on the queens of all queens blog page, Smitten Kitchen. It was a real donut recipe, like you fry it and everything. I thought wow I’m need to try this. Disclaimer: I had never fried anything myself. So months later, I finally found the time, motivation, and courage to try it.

**Still have zero clue if it’s doughnuts or donuts**

The recipe was her jelly stuffed donut holes(will be below):

So these are them. I know, they ain’t pretty. They took literally day between making and kneading and letting them rise for hours at the right temperature. Man this was one of the hardest things I’ve ever made. So at the very end of the day when I went  to fry for the first time, I was exhausted. If I’m being honest, the product was not worth the work. The dough wasn’t very flavorful and I didn’t put enough jelly in them so highly mediocre. I used almond extract instead of vanilla because I thought that would be yummier since I am also obsessed with almonds. But let me just tell you, it was not a good decision. Also, I tried the harder method because I really wanted a challenge. In the harder method you fill the donuts before you fry them and this definitely lived up to it’s name. You’re supposed to kinda make a ravioli with it and put jam in between two circles of dough. Well, every time I let them rise, the two part of the donut ravioli would separate and the dough would separate. To get them back together I would have to squish them together and basically ruin all the rising that just happened. This happened multiple times and to basically all of my donuts. If you’re planning on making these, I highly recommend the second method. Overall this was definitely a challenge and I always enjoy a baking challenge, but the product was not A+. But I’m also 99% sure that the lack of quality in the product was user error and not the recipe and if I really tried again, I could improve, so who know what the future holds.

Flash Forward and I bought this beautiful donut pan. I mean she was absolutely gorgeous. So I thought I would have another go at donuts. This time I would bake them and leave frying as a thing of the past. I found this recipe for Strawberry Donuts and I was jazzed because I had recently read on the internet that strawberries are in season(no idea if that’s true but it was on the internet so obviously I believed it). So I went out bought some fresh strawberries and got to work.

This was world’s better than the other donuts. I highly recommended baked donuts. They’re super fun to make and way easier than fried donuts. This picture does not do them justice let me just say that. I only have one critique. I ran out of the strawberry glaze so if you’re planning on making, double or triple the strawberry glaze also definitely have to be piped into the pans. They tasted pretty darn good too!
